I’m Steve, accredited Grow Safe course conductor and look forward to hearing from you.

There are two types of certificates;

– Standard Certificate

This course is for agrichemical users working independently (i.e. with little to no supervision) and responsibility for a single site/property, and may have responsibility for managing/supervising others. You are likely operating in a known set of circumstances, such as: one location, crop or equipment type or operating under the supervision of someone with a RCA or GROWSAFE Advanced certification.

– Basic Certificate

The Basic certificate is for those working under supervision.  It is also suitable for those who are new to agrichemical use or those doing pre-employment training. The focus is mainly on practical competence and following workplace procedures.  Staff who use agrichemicals should undertake training at this level to ensure their health and safety.   Applicators with a Growsafe Basic certificate should be operating under the supervision of someone with a Growsafe Standard certificate or higher.

Benefits of the course

This one day course covers the essential knowledge for safe use of agrichemicals and provides practical, task-related knowledge and skills with a focus on safety.

How I Can Help

Course Objective for Standard  Certificate

Training to apply agrichemicals in a safe, responsible and effective way with minimal impact on human, environmental and animal health.
Being aware of the regulatory and market requirements regarding agrichemical use.
Being aware of your obligations under the various legislations that impact on the use of agrichemicals in NZ.

Assessment

The GROWSAFE Standard certificate will be awarded on successful completion of both written and practical assessments.

The practical assessment requires the following:
Copy of an inventory for your workplace.
Eight completed spray diaries covering eight independent spray events (i.e. different date, place or agrichemical) with sign-off from an independent third party e.g. manager.
Alternatively, in place of spray diaries, the following will be acceptable:
A practical demonstration of skill in a real or simulated workplace using real agrichemicals.
Interview of candidate by the assessor/tutor.
Interview of candidate’s supervisor/employer.

Who this course is for

Agrichemical users working independently (i.e. with little or no supervision) with responsibility for a single site and may have responsibility for managing or supervising others.
The course tutors will assume all learners have a basic level of knowledge of agrichemicals and their use so they can focus on new, higher level content.

Expiry of certificate and renewal

A Grow safe Standard certificate is valid for 5 years, then it can be renewed.  This is due to the laws, technology and best practice are constantly changing.  Your customers and the regulators require evidence that you are up-to-date.

Renewal of your certificate must be done within 12 months of expiry.

This can be done by attending a half day face-to-face course or completing an online assessment (if certificate expired less than 6 months) completing a higher level certificate.
If your certificate expired more than 6 months ago, contact your local trainer to discuss renewal requirements.

Course Objective – Basic Course

The Basic certificate is ideal for those working under supervision.  It is also suitable for those who are new to agrichemical use or are doing pre-employment training.  The focus is on practical competence and following workplace procedures.  All staff who use agrichemicals should undertake training at this level to ensure their health and safety.   People with a Growsafe Basic certificate should be operating under the supervision of someone with a Growsafe Standard (or higher) certificate.
